SASY has thrown the traditional school classroom aesthetic out the window.
Our school is open plan, modern, and furnished to feel welcoming and safe for our students. Our design choices promote independence and agency in our students, encouraging them to take charge of their learning journey down to where they sit, proximity to others, and if they choose a couch or chair.
Something as simple as breaking the negative associations with set seating and tables and chairs facing the front of the classroom is the first step to better engagement with our students.
We have purposely designed a school that doesn't 'feel like one' - when young people come to SASY, it is a fresh start.

At SASY, we follow our own Rhythm.
SASY's version of a timetable, the Rhythm allows our young people to engage in programs that balance structure and flexibility, with learning and wellbeing deeply interwoven across every part of the day. Rhythms can be tailored to individuals depending on needs.
Rock Up: A Safe Start
Each morning begins with warmth, nourishment, and connection. Young people settle into the day through calm routines and shared meals.
Fresh, free breakfast available
Time to land, feel seen, and reconnect
Familiar routines that build safety and belonging
Switch On: Starting with Connection and Learning
Our ON session builds Hub culture, strengthens relationships, and gently activates learning. Core literacy, numeracy, and project-based activities are embedded in this time.
Check-ins, group conversations, and creative tasks
Learning that sparks curiosity and builds confidence
Opportunities to practice essential skills in supported, engaging ways
Join In: Deep Learning and Exploration
The IN session is when young people dive deeper. It’s a focused space for collaborative ACARA projects, SACE-aligned units, and personalised learning pathways.
Hands-on, inquiry-based learning tied to our Holistic Learning Areas
Individual learning programs that reflect young people’s interests and goals
Spaces supported by multidisciplinary teams working side by side
Opportunities to reflect, solve problems, and grow capacity
Stretch Out: Learning Beyond the Hub
In the OUT session, young people connect with peers across the school and explore their place in the broader community. This is still core learning, it just looks a little different.
Programs, excursions, and community-based learning
Curriculum aligned learning could include: beach science, dog training, bike-riding, or street art
Real-world skill building, teamwork, and opportunities leadership
Space to try new things and step out with support
Every Day is Different: But the Support is Consistent
Learning happens across the whole day at SASY, not just in traditional lessons. Young people are supported to grow at their own pace through healthy routines, positive relationships, and meaningful engagement.
Integrated wellbeing and learning
Multidisciplinary teams in every Hub
Personalised approaches
A focus on safety, agency, and purpose
